Bridal Beauty Bootcamp!

Your wedding photos are quite simply the most important aspect of your wedding. Years later, you will always be able to look back on your photos and reflect upon your happy memories of the day. And of course, your face will be immortalized forever in High Definition (HD) photos and videos. Looking picture perfect starts with skin care, and this is vital to looking as flawless as possible under makeup. If you do not take care of your skin – cleansing, moisturizing, treatments – the most elite makeup artist cannot fully camouflage skin that has overriding issues.

On a good note, skin will respond fairly quickly to simple remedies that can make a big difference. The first step is to adopt a skin care regime that is tailored to your specific skin type – normal, oily, combination, etc. You also will want to implement some simple steps to help alleviate and eliminate any areas of concern – under eye puffiness, dark circles, fine lines, etc.  This is so critical for your wedding day photos – and it’s not just important for the bride! Get your girls into bridal beauty bootcamp too! I have seen so many photos of a beautiful bride with a bridal party that was negligent with skin care, and did not make the investment of professional makeup services to ensure beautiful “camera ready” looking results.

Whether or not you hire a makeup artist for your wedding, here are some of my important beauty tips that will help ladies look their best:

1. Skin – This is critical – you need to begin a good skin care routine at least 6 months before the big day so that your skin has a chance to normalize as much as possible. Many girls run into this problem right before their wedding. Some brides will buy a sonic speed pore cleaner a month before the wedding, only to have their face covered in acne on the wedding day. These machines purge the skin of deeply embedded impurities, and it takes months for your skin to return to normal. This is why it is advisable to not introduce anything new to your skin two months prior to the wedding. However, I do always tell brides to get an exfoliation facial a few days before the wedding to give you an overall glow and help boost that bridal radiance.

2. Eyebrows – Please – I beg you – have your eyebrows professionally groomed for your wedding! The eyebrow helps to frame and set the eyes, and having the arch perfectly in place is critical. For eyebrows, I almost always use a brow powder rather than a pencil to fill in the brows, and even add natural color to sparse areas.

3. Foundation – Did you know there are THREE undertones to skin? Warm, cool, and neutral! Many cosmetic companies DO NOT even make neutral as an undertone choice. However, your foundation must exactly match your undertone, and the shade must not be too light or too dark for your top tone. If your undertone and shade do not match your skin tone and blend perfectly, you will see a strong line of demarcation in photos and HD videos!

4. Eyeliner and Mascara – Most brides are going to cry on their wedding day. And, most brides forget to use waterproof mascara AND waterproof eyeliner. For this I highly recommend L’Oreal waterproof mascara – it’s the best and you don’t need to spend $25 or more on some of those more expensive brands.

5. Hairstyle -The final element of your bridal beauty beyond skin and makeup is your hairstyle. Your hair should be consistent with the theme of your wedding gown, makeup, and everything else. And the veil may also play a role in how you wear your hair.

Best of luck to you for your wedding day – Just remember to smile, have fun, and enjoy the day!
